Branding: Restaurant Identity
Project type
Branding: Restaurant Identity
Date
May 2024
Location
Marin County, CA
Objective:
This student project focused on creating a cohesive brand for a restaurant or bar that included creating a primary logo, menu, and food project. We were also required to create mockups to convey an overall identity for our company.
Design Concept:
I chose to create a pub and restaurant called Henry's Hollow Pub & Restaurant, which is an homage to my daughter's favorite stuffed animal, Henry the Fox. I imagined a pub that has been in town for years but needed a fresh re-branding. In Illustrator, I created Henry the Fox, using the basic line shapes that comprise a fox's face. After roughly 30 variations on the design, I finalized it for the project. I went for a playful design that would appeal to families, the target audience. I also found inspiration during my research in creating the flourishes for the logo.
Once I created the logo and the menu, I started adding products such as pint glasses, food packaging, and coasters. I even created a food truck mockup to showcase my abilities as a designer.
Color Theory:
I found an image of a fox that I liked and created a color palette that was warm and soft. I then simplified the palette for readability.
Typography:
For the restaurant name, I chose Rafaella for its flourishes and line options. I used Sutro for the secondary font. I kept these choices consistent throughout, especially for the menu.
Overview:
Henry's Hollow was one of my favorite projects because I shared my daughter's love of foxes with the public. This project also showcased my abilities as a designer to create a cohesive brand across a variety of projects. I am highly confident I could redesign a restaurant identity to suit a client's needs.
