Typography: Cookbook

Objective:
Create a student cookbook with consistent typography and imagery that appeals to the modern student.

Design Concept:
I started this project thinking about the typical meal associated with students on a budget: Ramen. From there, I created the concept of "Beyond Ramen: Quick Meals for Busy Students." I wanted this project to be bold, colorful, and geometrical. After tinkering with a few designs, I opted for large, overlaying circles as both a background element and to highlight the typography. I also designed all of the icons used in the cookbook rather than picking generic images from online sources. For the photography, I chose stock photos that showed a diverse group of students cooking together. I also chose clean, bold photos for the food.

Color Design:
I was inspired by hot chili peppers and found a warm color palette that I used throughout. Using the overlay option for the large circles also created a nice secondary palette.

Typography: I chose the Futura font family for its bold headlines and clean, readable text in smaller font sizes. Futura is a versatile font with a wide variety of options, which worked nicely for this project.

Overview,
I was very happy with this student project. It was a departure from color designs that I'm more comfortable with, which was a nice challenge. I am confident I could design and manager much larger print productions than this in the future.
